Turmeric has a history that reaches far beyond the spice cabinet. Used in beauty preparations and traditional practices across generations, this distinctive botanical brings a connection to plant-based care to our formula.
In LÉ DETOX, you’ll find it listed as Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Rhizome Extract, one of the ingredients that complements our castor oil base.
What is turmeric rhizome extract?
Turmeric comes from Curcuma longa, a plant in the ginger family. The part commonly called its “root” is actually a rhizome, an underground stem used in cooking, cosmetics, and traditional medicine. Our blend includes an extract derived from this part of the plant.
An extract differs from the turmeric powder in your kitchen or turmeric essential oil. How it is prepared determines which plant compounds it contains and in what amounts.
A history of botanical care
Turmeric has been used in Indian, Chinese, Thai, and other traditional medical systems, alongside its longstanding cosmetic and ceremonial uses. That heritage helps explain its continued presence in contemporary beauty and body care.
For LÉ DETOX, turmeric connects with our interest in bringing familiar botanical traditions into an approachable daily ritual. Its place in the blend reflects that connection between heritage and modern body care.
Why is turmeric studied in skin care?
Much of the scientific interest in turmeric centers on curcumin, one of its naturally occurring compounds. Researchers have explored turmeric and curcumin in topical formulations, but results depend on the preparation, concentration, and condition being studied.
The research is still developing. For example, a randomized trial of a topical curcumin gel did not find an overall benefit over placebo for radiation dermatitis. This illustrates why an ingredient’s reputation cannot replace evidence for a specific formula.
The ingredient name on our label alone does not establish its curcumin content or prove that the finished blend reduces inflammation, relieves cramps, or supports detoxification.
Why it belongs in our ritual
Turmeric rhizome extract adds another botanical element to a formula built around intentional body care. Alongside castor oil, milk thistle seed oil, and our other ingredients, it forms part of the blend you gently massage in and around your navel.
We see this ritual as an opportunity to give your abdomen the same attention you give your face, hands, or the rest of your body. A few drops can become a reminder to pause, notice how you feel, and make space for yourself.
Bring the ritual into your evening
Shake before use, apply several drops in and around the navel, and massage gently into the skin as directed. Pair it with slow breathing, a journal entry, or a quiet moment before bed.
Turmeric brings its botanical history to the formula. You bring the intention to the ritual.
